What are they for?

Felts are hands-on learning tools, they're designed for little hands to play with and to learn with. They are used for telling stories, and just having fun. The nature of felts, with their bright colors and soft feel, tend to make children excited about learning (and adults about teaching!).

Because they are so quiet, they are often used for rest times, church or travel. They also useful for ADD, special-ed students who learn well with manipulatives. They also build dexterity and problem solving skills while teaching other basic subjects as well.

They are popular with families, pre-schools, Head Start, day care centers, homeschoolers, early learning, school teachers and Sunday Schools.

What are they made of?

They are made from 100% polyester. The images are put onto the felt using a special high-pressure heat transfer press and by using proprietary printing techniques. This way they do not fade or crack and can be washed by hand. Of course, your kids would never get them dirty. . . right? Our felts are guaranteed to be more colorful and more detailed than any other felts available or your money back!

The customer normally cuts out the figures from the printed sheets of felt. However, at The Felt Source, we offer several of our best selling products PRE-CUT, and more are on their way! Look for the Pre-cut logo by all of our pre-cut products.

What are the primary ages that use felts?

The peak usage for felts are ages 4-10, however kids as young as 2 and as old as 11 often use the different sets. In fact, the puppets make an excellent toy for adults to play with babies. The Books of the Bible could be used for an adult class. The Bible sets are excellent for Pre-K through 4th grade.

Are there different types?

There are several different qualities of felts. Here at The Felt Source we sell only the best. How long do they last?

Your felts will give your children many years of enjoyment, without fading, cracking or tearing. Typically the sets are replaced not because they are worn out, but because they have lost pieces! With a little bit of care you will probably see them handed down to the next generation of kids.

On occasion a new background is needed, but only after years of use. The figures can be hand washed in cold water with a mild detergent and will lose none of their color or detail, but they will shrink if exposed to heat.

What Does Pre-Cut Mean?

If a set is pre-cut it will have our pre cut logo by it if it does not have the logo it is not pre-cut.

When most people think of flannelboard stories, they also think of the time it takes to cut them out of the sheet of felt. That or the poor quality paper figures with fuzzy backing.

Using new proprietary techniques, we can now offer many of our educational sets and some of our Bible lesson sets pre-cut. Notice that the pre-cut figure on the right, because of the inexact nature of polyester felt it has a border on it. This border is either matched to a background or is a nuetral color. You can leave (most people aren't bothered by it) or trim it off.

Many people ask when certain sets will be available pre-cut. It is very time consuming and expensive to convert the sets, as soon as available they are posted on the site. But be patient, it will be several years befor the process is complete!
